A Basic Dog Training Guide to Simple Tricks

Repetition is the key that will enable you to teach your dog new tricks. It is equally important that you only try and teach your dog one trick at a time so it doesn¡¯t get confused on the commands. After each teaching session, reward you dog with a treat or a romp in the backyard to let your pooch know that it did a good job and made its owner proud. Below is a short dog training guide of simple tricks that are easy to teach your dog:

Shaking Hands

This is a simple dog training guide trick where all you have to do is put you dog in the sitting position, gently take hold of his paw, and at the same time give the command in a firm voice: ¡°paw¡± or ¡°shake¡±. This ensures that your dog associates an action with a voice command. Repeating this command will help your dog remember to associate the phrase you use with the ¡°forced¡± action.

Catch

Some people believe that ¡°catch¡± is a learned response and that most dogs will catch anything tossed in the air. If this was the case, the ¡°catch¡± command would never have to be so thoroughly practiced. While it is a somewhat ¡°natural¡± instinct for dogs, ¡°catch¡± is also a learned trick for most. Using a dog training guide to teach your dog this trick is certainly a matter of practice and repeat, just like the other commands. Once again, it is a matter of association as you throw something in the air and give a voice command.

Use simple terms like ¡°catch¡± in one simple tone and the dog will be more apt to learn it. Do not complicate the commands, especially early on in your dog training. Be aware that all dogs do not ¡°catch¡± when something is thrown at them and be careful of the practicalities of teaching a dog to catch flying objects; avoid playing ¡°catch¡± in the house or in a store that specializes in glass-blown artistry.

Fetch

This is another dog training guide trick that will be easy to teach to your dog because fetching comes natural to most dogs. The object is to toss something and let your dog bring it back to you. Essentially, this command should be practiced with the owner doing the bulk of the actual ¡°fetching¡± to start with. In other words, you will be having a nice game of fetch with yourself in the park if you intend to teach your puppy to do the same.
