Dog house training is the most annoying part of the whole training process. This is due to the simple fact that a small puppy is like a burning energy ball –it just goes around and plays havoc with anything (and everything) he sees and manages to reach. You should expect your shoes eaten, your furniture or the remote control – chewed, and many other damaged house stuff. The worst of all is the fact that your puppy is still too young to control its bladder and you will find these smelly surprises all around your house.

Although the situation seems desperate, do not get discouraged. There are some tactics that you can use to minimize the stress until your dog becomes older. After all it is not him (or her) fault – your dogs are just like young children – they need to be trained what is allowed in house and what is not.

To ease your dog house training read what other people are doing when they adopt a baby dog. You are not the first one facing such problems and the numerous articles and discussion groups on the internet show it. Here are general (and basic) tips:

You have to create a dedicate area for your dog. Place its cradle, the water bow and toy there. This is very good for the puppy as it will know that he has his den.

Chose a room (or area of your home) free of puppy “temptations”. If you locate his bad in your living room for instance, you are automatically admitting that all of your living room furniture and stuff will be damaged and your carpets – damaged. Instead, locate the little family member in the kitchen, or in the hallway.

It is clear that you cannot keep an eye of the puppy 24/7. so when you are not at home or doing something that prevents you from watching your puppy, just close it in the room until you are free. This way you are limiting the space that can be ruined by your puppy mischief.

Dog house training requires a lot of patience. Do not get pissed of any time your dog does something bad. Shouting and beating him up will not help. Be consistent and try to show him that the thing he did was wrong.

Be consistent in your dog house training. Little dogs are like children – if they do something you’ve already shown is not allowed they feel embarrassed and expect a punishment. However if you miss to spot this, or just pass on with no reaction (because you are not in the mood, too tired or too angry) they see that you have never been serious. So it is very likely that your puppy with start to develop the bad habit of ignoring you.

There are many other techniques and exercises for dog house training. You can prepare yourself before taking a dog. At least you will know what to expect and how to react. If it is your first puppy, there will be some hard times until his sixth month or even until his first year. Nevertheless, the benefit of having such a devoted friend will erase and unpleasant memories from these early days of your dog house training.
