You have reamed for that little cute puppy to come into your life and here it is – your new family member. Little dogs are so charming that you impulsively embrace the idea that it will always be a small depending creature to hug and carry around.

The reality is that a dog is a great responsibility and your little puppy will have to go through some training. In case you have already had a dog, you would know most of the training techniques. However if this is your first dog, there is plenty to learn. Moreover, when I say learn I mean both of you. Here are some dog training basics designed to help you in this new experience.

Dog owner training basics:

Be very responsible towards your dog. The responsibility of having a dog is the same, if not greater, as having a child. You should treat with great responsibility its needs – to feed him, to walk him out, to keep him healthy and happy, and to educate it. If you feel you are not ready for such a commitment, than choose another pet – like fish.

Be very disciplined and consistent. Training a dog is like teaching a child to behave. You should be disciplined and strictly follow the steps involved into any teaching lesson (for example how to teach your dog not to eat your shoes). Consistency is required in order to establish rules and to how who is the master in your relationship. If you have already set up a rule, (such as barking at home is forbidden) do not close your eyes in case your dog breaks it. This will only spoil everything you have achieved so far.

Educate yourself. Do not just take chances in your dog training thinking that you have intuition and “know” how to train your dog. Dogs are not humans and that is why their training requires specific approach. Read some books and articles and even join some online discussion groups on the subject. It is highly recommended that you do this before adopting a dog so that you are fully informed about what is expected by you (as the dog owner) and what is expected of your dog.

Dog training basics:

One of the first things a puppy should learn is not to choke everything around the house. You can easily achieve it by keeping an eye at it, consistently guiding what is allowed, and what is not allowed for choking. Buy your dog a rubber toy and any time it starts eating something just give it the toy

Show your dog as much as possible from the world that surrounds it. Do not just keep it in house; bring it out so that it get accustomed to noises, people and smells.

Teach your dog to some common commands. Although it is very small, your dog should learn o come when you asks him, to stay at his cradle, not to jump over people. There are thousands of articles on this subject to give you a clue how to achieve these.

The dog training basics include some complicated commands – to bring you something, to sit, to ignore other people with no command.

Actually dog training basics include a wide specter of commands which are just enough for any pet dog. In case it will be just a home dog, you do not need to teach him to anything special in case you do not want it of course.
