The Solid Hurdle. Detailed specifications may be found in The American and Canadian Kennel Club rule books for Obedience Trials.
The High Jump: Five feet wide. Adjustable in heights of from eight to thirty-six inches. Consists of four 1" x 8" boards, one 1" x 6" board, one 1" x 4" board and two 4-foot Standard uprights, each with a wide base, constructed with grooves into which the boards fit. (See Regulations and Standards for Obedience Trials, available from: The American Kennel Club, 221 Park Avenue South, New York, New York, and The Canadian Kennel Club, 667 Yonge Street, Toronto, Canada.)
Note: One 1" x 2" board may be necessary to meet certain height requirements.

The Dumbbell: Available in small, medium, and large sizes. Select a dumbbell made of hard wood and with square ends. End pieces should be sufficiently large to discourage the dog from picking the dumbbell up the wrong way.

The Broad Jump. Drawings and detailed specifications may be found in the rule books.
The Broad Jump: Consists of two to four separate hurdles, five feet long and 8 inches wide, measuring 2 inches to 7 inches in height and adjustable from 16 inches to 72 inches in overall length. The flat surface of each hurdle slopes, allowing for a 2 inch difference in height between the front and the back edge of each hurdle. The hurdles are constructed in such a way that they telescope for convenient storage. (See Regulations and Standards for Obedience Trials.)

The Bar Hurdle. This is not part of the Open Course but is used for the jumping exercises.
The Bar Jump: The Bar Jump is not part of the OPEN CLASS equipment, but it will be used in the JUMPING exercise. Construction is similar to that of the High Jump. Instead of boards, a round, wooden horizontal bar is used, which is adjustable for raising or lowering according to the height of the dog. Adjustable for each 2 inches of height from 12 inches (or lower) to 36 inches. (See Regulations and Standards for Obedience Trials.)
Miscellaneous Training Equipment:
Training collar and a six-foot flat leather leash.
A long line with a snap on one end.
A small, rolled magazine.
A light rod, approximately 4 feet long (for clearing the High Jump.)
A piece of chicken wire or hardware cloth, the size of the Broad Jump. Are You Ready To Move Onto The Next Lesson? Click Here...
