37. Sit- And Down -Stays

When training your dog to stay while you go out of sight, leave one way, then return from another direction. The element of surprise, not knowing from which direction you

MIGHT return, will help your dog to settle down and wait more contentedly.

Practice the stays as part of your dog's daily routine, and practice in strange places.

Staying on command should not be associated entirely with the training yard and the Obedience ring.

Alternate the STAY exercises with the RECALL so your dog will distinguish more clearly between the "STAY!" command and that of "Come!"
